Good hotels, apartments/studios, plenty of restaurants/taverns/bars and beautiful sandy beaches make it very popular with tourists. Its central location on the island makes it ideal starting point for exploring Kefalonia. The small chapel and cave of Agios Gerasimos, the patron saint of the island, who lived here as a hermit for six years, is located uphill from the main road. The picturesque coastal road Fanari to Argostoli starts from Lassi and offers beautiful views, small secluded coves and welcoming refreshments at the Oskars café-bar, where you can photograph the turtles. From here you can take a short walk over the hill to Argostoli, passing the two churches of Agios Gerasimos and Agios Thanasis on the way. At the top you will have a panoramic view of the bay, Argostoli, Lixouri, the island of Vardiani (island of rabbits) and the whole of Lassi. The ridge path on the left brings you to the Italian Monument. Along the coastal road you will see the magnificent lighthouse of Agioi Theodoroi and the waterwheel Katavothres with its strange phenomenon. You will pass by the area dedicated to the memory of the Italian soldiers and officers who served on the island during World War II. A plaque marks the grave of 136 men of the Acqui Division who were executed here by the Germans in September 1943. The Italian Memorial is marked on the hill from here. This walk from Lassi to Argostoli will give you much to see and much to think about, while at night it offers the best sunsets on the island. Seesights in Kefalonia ## Katavothres It is located in a distance of about 2km from the island’s capital, Argostoli, in the so called round of Lassi. Sea water enters through holes near the shore and follows quite a long route, flowing into the lake of Melissani as well as Karavomylos. The mills were place there by the British man Stewens, who was the first to observe the phenomenon. ![Katavothres](https://oskars.gr/images/photos/see-sights/greece-kefalonia-lassi-katavothres.jpg) ## St. Theodoron Lighthouse It is a traditional lighthouse used for the approaching to the shore ships, so as to avoid rocks. Built in 1829 during the British Rule, a work of J.P. Kennedy. Like everything else in most of Kefalonia, it was destroyed during the earthquake of August 1953. It was reconstructed immediately after. ![St. Theodoron Lighthouse](https://oskars.gr/images/photos/see-sights/dsc02554_optimized.jpg) ## St. Gerasimos Cave Saint Gerasimos lived an ascetic life, when he came to Kefalonia in 1555 and stayed here for 5 years. In 1560 he went to Omala, where his monastery is today. In the northern side of the Cave, there is a natural 30x30cm hole, which provides natural lighting and a view to the sea.
